1. JUNE 2019 OVERVIEW
Unsurprisingly crime is up 3 fold on last year, but some good news is the slight reduction for June.
- Overall, a 15% decrease in incidents reported between May and June 2019. The current decrease in crime
may be attributed to arrests reported in Emerald Hill, Westgate and Greendale (Harare) in the past month.
– A temporary decrease in crime in one area often leads to an increase in another (crime displacement) and
the following areas are listed as areas of concern with a need for increased security measures and
vigilance:
- Of the incidents reported, females are currently vulnerable to theft incidents outside their premises and as
such hypervigilance is advised when exiting or entering a premises. - Security systems rely on stable power and this is very difficult to manage at present with cuts of 18 hours per
day on average. A Combination of the longer winter nights, poor or no lighting, and failing systems has
increased the risk for all premises . - A few measures to help combat this . No ZESA required
– Make sure you have the SAFEGUARD SOS app on your phone – Its free for our customers at each
premises.
– Wireless battery operated external alarms _ we have in stock DIY or we can install for you.
– Wireless internal alarms
– Make use of the alarm APP to control your system so that you can remotely control access, and
nuisance alarms.
– External LED flood with sensor to activate on motion to give some light- available many hardware
stores.
– Test your alarms systems regularly to ensure signal and sensors operating correctly.
– Lock up early!
