OCTOBER 2019 OVERVIEW
  • Overall, crime increased by 7% from 95 in September 2019 to 102 in October 2019, with a 20% increase in theft incidents reported over the past month.
  • Although, the number of armed robbery incidents reported decreased, the level of violence increased with one (1) fatality reported in Southview Park in the previous month. Additionally, another resident was severely injured after being assaulted in Highlands.
  • Fuel and vehicle batteries remain vulnerable to theft
  • Cash remains a target. Make use of cash in transit services to move it, and deal with it confidentially.  Many incidents highlight the involvement of inside information when an incident occurs.
  • Town house complexes more recently have been targeted. There is sometimes a false sense of security. Make user community security systems are in fact working, and consider small local alarm for your townhouse or flat. We have a number of really affordable options for you.
  • All property owners are urged to be vigilant as the rainy season approaches. More power outages and strong winds provide an opportune environment for intruders.
  • Property owners are urged to request patrols in areas where construction work is in progress as suspects are a) likely to steal from such premises or b) hideout in vacant premises of the nature. The latter is especially so as criminals will seek to find shelter in such places in the rainy weather.
  • Finally, the holidays are upon us. If you are thinking of going away plan now for your security- power, service for systems, extra guarding etc. If you need any advice please call in to your local safeguard office, or contact us at info@safeguard.co.zw.
