Another year has flashed by and as we head into the holiday, we often forget about security in our rush to plan our family getaways and meetings.
The November report is below, and follows the trend for the year- crime on the up year on year, more violent than previous years, cash remains a target, and theft from motor vehicles a common daily event.
Give some thought to your security plan and be safe this holiday.
For the holiday period we have increased our patrols, the number of vehicles for emergency response, and are available 24 hours to assist.
Happy Christmas!
Thank you for using Safeguard
NOVEMBER 2019 OVERVIEW
- Crime statistics reveal a 9% decrease in crime from 102 in October 2019 to 93 in November 2019. However, armed robbery incidents increased by more than double from 4 to 10, the most armed robbery incidents reported to Safeguard this year.
- Bulawayo reported the most significant increase in armed robbery incidents, with an even number of incidents occurring at commercial and residential premises as was the overall trend for the month. Throughout the year; 75% of the armed robbery incidents reported to Safeguard occurred at residential premises making these the most vulnerable.
– Most bonuses and consumer expenditure increases in December during this period and it is not uncommon for business owners, especially small business owners, to take money home. This however significantly increases the risk of victimization and all individuals are urged to use cash-in-transit and storage facilities during this period.
- Although assault remains the most common type of violence reported during armed robbery incidents, two (2) incidents in Bulawayo were reported whereby suspects discharged firearms, with no fatalities or injuries reported as a result. However, serious injuries have been reported due to assault, with one (1) fatality reported in Emerald Hill.
- Property owners are urged to be vigilant when exiting/entering premises and to ensure that they lock all entrances and arm their alarms especially during the early evening and early mornings as suspects know people are often less vigilant during this time.
- The following areas have been identified as high-risk areas in the past three (3) months and are likely to remain so in the festive season:
