MAY 2020 INCIDENT SUMMARIES
HARARE
05 May 2020, Armed Robbery, Commercial Site, Harare Street, City Centre:
Five (5) masked suspects, armed with iron bars approached a private guard on site and ordered him to lie down before forcing open the front door of the shop. The suspects removed 40 litres of hydraulic oil and 150 litres of lubricant oil from the site before fleeing the scene.
09 May 2020, Armed Robbery, Commercial Site, Chiromo Close, Colne Valley:
Five (5) to six (6) suspects wearing masks and armed with pistols tied the two guards’ hands with electric cables. The suspects then proceeded to the company office and force-marched three (3) occupants to the domestic staff cottage. Two (2) of the occupants were kicked and beaten with metal rods and clenched fists and the suspects demanded that they open the safe. The suspects stole cell phones and cash which was in the safe, and a torch belonging to the guard. The matter was reported to the police. Response team dispatched.
28 May 2020, Armed Robbery, Residential Site, Cleveland Road, Greendale:
Four (4) robbers armed with pistols opened the gate, drove into the premises, force-marched everyone inside the house and tied one of the residents’ hands with cables, demanding cash. The robbers made away with cash and a cellphone. The matter was reported to the police. Panic signal received. Response team dispatched. No guard on site.
23 May 2020, Armed Robbery, Residential Site, Unknown Road, Vainona:
Three (3) armed suspects gained access onto the premises and held up the complainants. The suspects demanded money and removed money and jewellery from the complainant’s house. Upon seeing the small amount that the complainant had, they realised that they had entered the wrong house and removed alcohol, cellphones and laptops from the premises.
10 May 2020, Attempted Assault, Commercial Site, Samora Machel Avenue, Eastlea:
Two (2) male suspects, armed with a golf stick and a machete, attempted to assault the guard on duty. The guard pressed a panic button and the response team was dispatched to the site. The suspects attempted to flee the scene but were apprehended and taken into police custody.
31 May 2020, Break-In, Residential Site, Harare Street, City Centre:
One (1) intruder was apprehended hiding in a water tank on the roof of the premises. The intruder removed two (2) roof sheets, entered the ceiling and proceeded to vandalize the alarm and CCTV cables. The intruder’s satchel containing tools used to cut the cables and an empty 10kg sack was found in the ceiling. The matter was reported to the police. Alarm signal received. Response team dispatched.
15 May 2020, Attempted Break-in, Commercial Site, Basset Crescent, Alexandra Park:
An unknown number of suspects attempted to gain access onto the site after cutting through the fence. No losses reported.
23 May 2020, Break-in, Industrial Site, Leyland Road, Ardbennie:
An unknown number of suspects gained access onto the site via an undisclosed point and gained access onto the roof. An alert guard saw the suspects removing reflectors and some material from the premise and gave chase. The suspects fled the scene.
07 May 2020, Attempted Break-in, Commercial Site, King George Road, Avondale:
An unknown number of suspects forced open the front door of the premise but did not manage to remove anything from the site as the guard on duty interrupted the suspects.
07 May 2020, Break-In, Commercial Site, Cork Road, Belgravia:
An unknown number of intruders cut the lock to the small gate in order to gain entry. The dogs began to bark and the intruders fled. The matter was reported to the police. Alarm signal received. Response team dispatched.
20 May 2020, Break-in, Residential Site, Cardigan Avenue, Belvedere:
An unknown number of suspects cut through the electric fence to enter the premises. The suspect/s approached a vehicle parked on site and attempted to syphon fuel from the vehicle. The dogs on site started saw the intruders and gave chase and the suspects fled the scene empty-handed. It was discovered the electric fence was not working at the time of the incident.
08 May 2020, Break-In, Commercial Site, Borrowdale Road, Borrowdale:
An unknown number of intruders twisted the palisade bar in order to gain entry to the site. Fuel from the generator and batteries are suspected to have been stolen. One (1) intruder left a shoe behind when fleeing the scene. The matter was reported to the police. Alarm signal received. Response team dispatched.
31 May 2020, Attempted Break-in, Commercial Site, Harare Street, City Centre:
An unknown number of suspects gained access onto the premises and climbed on top of the roof. The alarm activated and the response team was dispatched to the premises. The team found a suspect hiding in a water tank on top of the roof. The suspect had already removed the roof sheets and vandalised but had not yet managed to remove anything from the premises.
06 May 2020, Attempted Break-in, Base Station, Unnamed Street, Chitungwiza:
An unknown number of suspects forced open the palisade fences and entered the site. The alarm activated causing the suspects to flee the scene empty handed.
30 May 2020, Break-In, Base Station, Unnamed Street, Budiriro:
An unknown number of intruders cut one (1) of the palisade bars on the northern side of the base station in order to gain entry. Nothing was reported stolen. Signal received. Response team dispatched. No guard on site.
28 May 2020, Attempted Break-In, Commercial Site, South Avenue, City Centre:
An unknown number of intruders opened the sliding door and attempted to gain forced entry through the screen door of the premises. Nothing was stolen. Alarm signal received. Response team dispatched.
16 May 2020, Break-In, Commercial Site, Kenneth Kaunda Avenue, City Centre:
An unknown number of intruders smashed the front window and fished out 1x 5-way adapter, 1x work suit, 1x First Aid kit, wood spray and some cables. Response dispatched.
14 May 2020, Break-In, Commercial Site, Chinhoyi Street, City Centre:
Five (5) suspects arrived at the site in a vehicle with no number plates, smashed a display window and force-opened the screen doors in order to enter into the shop. Upon arrival of the response team, one (1) of the suspects standing outside the shop began throwing stones at the response team vehicle, damaging the windscreen. The other four (4) suspects came out and they all fled in the getaway vehicle. The response team pursued the suspects in a car chase via Charter, Cripps, Seke and Boshoff to Mbare, but the suspects eventually got away. Nothing was stolen from the store. The complainant declined police involvement. Alarm signal received. Response team dispatched.
09 May 2020, Break-In, Commercial Site, Speke Avenue, City Centre:
Two (2) intruders cut keys of the main screen door, opened the glass door inside and entered the shop. The intruders stole twenty (20) tyres. The matter was reported to the police. CCTV footage captured. Alarm signal received. Response team dispatched.
01 May 2020, Break-In, Commercial Site, Corner Nelson Mandela and Harare Street, City Centre:
An unknown number of suspects arrived in two (2) vehicles with no registration plates, and ordered the guard to lie down on the ground. The suspects attempted to break the lock of the main entrance and then smashed the store glass in order to gain entry, and took some containers of oil. The matter was reported to the police. Response team dispatched.
15 May 2020, Break-in, Residential Site, Chiromo Close, Colne Valley:
An unknown number of suspects jumped over the durawall and forced open the windows. The suspect/s ransacked the house and scattered property in the yard. The residents responded to the noise the suspect/s fled the scene. The losses are yet to be determined.
18 May 2020, Break-In, Base Station, Takawira Avenue, Dzivarasekwa:
An unknown number of intruders forced open the palisade bar on the western side of the base station in order to gain entry. Nothing was stolen. The matter was reported to the police. Alarm signal received. Response team dispatched. No guard on site.
12 May 2020, Break-In, Residential Site, Buckingham Road, Eastlea North:
An unknown number of intruders cut the strands of the fence and gained forced entry into one of the offices. The intruders took 1x solar panel and 2x solar batteries. The matter was reported to the police. Response team dispatched.

An unknown number of intruders gained entry onto the premises, vandalized the gate sensors and stole the gate motor. The matter was reported to the police. Alarm signal received. No guard on site.

An unknown number of intruders gained forced entry onto the premises. Losses are yet to be confirmed. The matter was reported to the police. Guard on site.

An unknown number of intruders cut the screen burglar bar of the window adjacent to the main door and gained entry. It is not yet known what was stolen from the premises. The matter was reported to the police. Response team dispatched.

An unknown number of intruders forced open four (4) palisade bars in order to gain entry to the base station and stole eight (8) batteries. The matter was reported to the police. Alarm signal received. Response team dispatched. Guard on site.
12 May 2020, Break-In, Base Station, Bulawayo Road, Kuwadzana:
Repeat-Incident: An unknown number of intruders gained entry through the twisted palisade bars (yet to be repaired) from a break-in which occurred on the 9th, and cut the lock for the generator cage. 1x generator battery is suspected to have been stolen. Alarm signal received. Video signal received. Response team dispatched.
09 May 2020, Break-In, Base Station, Bulawayo Road, Kuwadzana:
An unknown number of intruders twisted two (2) palisade bars in order to enter the base station, covered the camera facing the generator with a T-shirt, cut the key for the generator cage and removed the fuel cap from the fuel tank. The matter was reported to the police. Alarm signal received. Response team dispatched.
29 May 2020, Break-In, Base Station, Corner Wisteriam Avenue/ Orange Avenue, Lochinvar:
An unknown number of intruders covered one (1) of the cameras on site with a cloth, forced open a palisade bar on the western side of the premises in order to gain entry to the base station. The intruders forced open the door to the monitor room. It is not yet clear what items have been stolen. The matter was reported to the police. Alarm signal received. Response team dispatched

An unknown number of intruders bent one (1) of the palisade bars in an attempt to enter the base station. The intrusion was detected by alarm sensors. There were no reported losses. The matter was reported to the police. Alarm signal received. Response team dispatched.
27 May 2020, Break-in, Commercial Site, Prince Edward Street, Milton Park:
An unknown number of suspects gained access onto the site and proceeded to smash open the windows. The alarm activated and the suspect/s fled the scene empty handed.
15 May 2020, Break-In, Commercial Site, Upper East Road, Mount Pleasant:
An unknown number of intruders jumped over the low durawall and forced two (2) windows and an office door open in order to gain entry. The intruders stole 1x 15kg gas tank and some heaters. The matter was reported to the police.

An unknown number of intruders damaged the door to the lounge and entered the house. The intruders stole a television that was later recovered outside the durawall. The matter was reported to the police. Alarm signal received. Response team dispatched.
26 May 2020, Break-In, Industrial Site, Williams Way, Msasa:
An unknown number of intruders damaged two (2) durawall panels in order to gain entry at the site and removed two (2) batteries from a truck which was parked on the premises. The matter was reported to the police. Response team dispatched.
11 May 2020, Attempted Break-in, Industrial Site, Harrow Road, Msasa:
An alert security managed to prevent the theft of batteries from a vehicle parked on site. One (1) suspect had jumped over the wall to access the premises and fled the scene when the guard approached.
08 May 2020, Attempted Break-In, Residential Site, Kingsbridge Avenue, Northwood:
An unknown number of intruders removed one durawall panel on the western side of the yard with the intention of gaining entry. The intruders poisoned the dogs by throwing poisoned meat over the wall which the dogs ate. The dogs survived the poisoning. The investigation is still ongoing.
14 May 2020, Attempted Break-in, Retail Site, Sixth and Milford, Parktown:
A panic signal was received from the site and the response team was dispatched to the site. Three (3) suspects driving a white Toyota Spacio arrived on site, broke the chain to the door but did not manage to enter the site. The suspects fled the scene empty handed.
17 May 2020, Break-In, Residential Site, Windybee Way, Philadelphia:
An unknown number of intruders forced open the dining room window and entered the house. The intruders stole 2x 5kg and 7kg gas tanks and some wine glasses. The gas tanks were later recovered outside the neighbouring premises. The matter was reported to the police. Panic button pressed. Response team dispatched.

An unknown number of intruders damaged the kitchen door and stole a television. The matter was reported to the police. Alarm signal received. Response team dispatched.

An unknown number of intruders cut the burglar bar of the upstairs window and pushed the window open in order to gain entry. The intruders stole 2x 621622, 4x 631022, 20x 600S, 2x NJ314 bearings and 1x half belt fastener box. The matter was reported to the police. Alarm signals received. Response team dispatched. 21 May 2020, Attempted Break-In, Industrial Site, Manchester Road, Southerton:
An unknown number of intruders tampered with the office doors on site, with one (1) of the intruders having tried to open a door using an iron bar but failed to gain entry. Nothing was stolen. The matter was reported to the police. Guard on site.

An unknown number of suspects cut 15 – 20 metres of the electric fence in order to gain entry. One (1) warning shot was fired. The matter was reported to the police. Response team dispatched.

An unknown number of suspects forcibly entered the site and stole an undisclosed amount of foreign currency from the premises.

An unknown number of suspects forced open the palisade and covered the camera with a t-shirt. The suspects forced open the cage that contains the batteries but failed to remove the batteries.
14 May 2020, Break-In, Commercial Site, Cheviot Avenue, Waterfalls:
An unknown number of intruders cut two (2) palisade bars at the right corner of the premises, bent the palisade bar of the generator cage, cut power and aerial cables, damaged the battery cage and stole the batteries. The matter was reported to the police. Response team dispatched.
11 May 2020, Break-In, Base Station, Unnamed Street, Waterfalls:
An unknown number of intruders cut one (1) palisade bar facing the eastern side in order to gain entry. The intruders left behind some plastic suspected to have been intended to cover the cameras. Nothing was stolen, and there was no further damage from inside. The matter was reported to the police. Alarm signal received. Response team dispatched.
30 May 2020, Break-In, Base Station, Eaglesville, Willowvale:
An unknown number of intruders forced open one (1) of the palisade bars at both the premise entrance and the generator cage and proceeded to break lock at the equipment room in order to gain entry. The generator battery and fuel are suspected to have been stolen. The matter was reported to the police. Panic signal received. Response team dispatched.

An unknown number of suspects forced open the palisade bars and cut the generator lock. The suspects removed fuel and one (1) battery from the premises and fled the scene. Alarm signal received.

Four (4) suspects entered the base station and attempted to accost the guard. The guard manage to break free of the and raised alarm and causing the suspects to flee the scene.

One (1) intruder was apprehended on site after he had illegally gained access onto the premises and activated the alarm system. The suspect was handed over to the police.
13 May 2020, Intruder, Residential Site, Str Malo Avenue, Greendale:
Three (3) suspected thieves trespassed on site as they fled the local patrol guards. No losses reported on site.
20 May 2020, Intruder, Commercial Site, Enterprise Road, Highlands:
An alert guard saw one (1) intruder jumping out of the premises and raised alarm. The motion sensors had failed to trigger the alarm. No losses were reported on site.

An unknown number of suspects jumped over the durawall after cutting the electric fence. The suspects smashed open a window but did not manage to remove anything from the site.

An unknown number of suspects forcibly gained access onto the premises and approached a vehicle parked on site. The suspect/s smashed open the window but failed to remove anything from the vehicle.

An unknown number of suspects removed six (6) laptops from the warehouse on site and fled the scene. No signs of forced entry reported.
07 May 2020, Attempted Theft, Mining Site, Unnamed Road, Inyati:
An unknown number of suspects removed cyanide from the premises and hid it in a bush. The guard discovered the hidden cyanide and turned it in for safe-keeping.
23 May 2020, Theft, Industrial Site, Rosetta Road, Montgomery:
One (1) employee was found stealing a grinder from the site. The incident was discovered on close-circuit television and the individual was apprehended and turned over into police custody.
30 May 2020, Theft, Industrial Site, Cecil Avenue, Morningside:
Three (3) male suspects driving a silver/grey Toyota Wish with registration number 6908, arrived on site. The suspects approached the complainants before entering the office and removing money from the kiosk. No weapon was produced during the incident.

An unknown number of suspects removed two (2) pick heads, one (1) pick handle and a memory card. No signs of forced entry reported.

An unknown number of suspects gained access onto the premises, forced open the main door and removed a water pipe from the premises.
14 May 2020, Attempted Theft, Unnamed Road, Retail Site, Chipinge:
One (1) suspect was apprehended after he attempted to recycle a receipt to steal sugar from the premises. The suspect informed the guard on duty that he had been sent by management to execute the act. The guard on site informed management and the suspect was handed over to the police.
14 May 2020, Attempted Theft, Unnamed Road, Retail Site, Chipinge:
One (1) suspect was apprehended after removing and concealing an undisclosed amount of alcohol taken from the premises.

An unknown number of suspects jumped over the durawall and broke open a window. The alarm went off and the suspects did not manage to remove anything from the premises.
01 May 2020, Attempted Break-in, Commercial Site, Murambi Drive, Murambi:
An unknown number of suspects gained access onto the premises and attempted to force open the verandah screen. The suspects failed to gain further access onto the premises and fled the scene.

An unknown number of suspects were heard loitering on the premises. The guard on duty pressed the panic button and the response team was dispatched to the site. The suspects had fled the scene when the response team arrived. It is believed the suspects were targeting the solar panels on site.

An unknown number of suspects gained access onto the premises and removed 24 units of hot plate stoves from the storeroom. The suspects were disturbed by an alert guard and abandoned the units on site.

An unknown number of suspects forced open the front door and removed an undisclosed amount of sugar, bread and non-alcoholic beverages from the site.

An unknown number of suspects gained access onto the site and attended to steal bananas from the premises. An alert guard saw the suspects and gave chase causing the suspects to leave behind bags of bananas.

An unknown number of suspects attempted to remove bags of ore from the premises. The guards retrieved some bags that had been left behind and fired a warning shot when some illegal panners attempted to follow them.
