MONTHLY OVERVIEW
- The total number of incidents are up slightly over the last two months but down on last year for our customers.
- Bulawayo has a growing crime rate and criminal incidents are ahead of last year.
- The use of firearms has increased.
- Over the past month schools have been targeted with armed robbery targeting cash reported by the police particularly in the Harare area.
- In Harare theft from vehicles has spiked. This targets schools, shopping centres, and events. The value of property left on display and in vehicles (including large amounts of cash) continues to surprise.
- Internal theft at business sites appears to be on the increase with reports of laptops being stolen from unattended and unlocked offices. Lock offices when out, control access to buildings, and protect information on computers with backup to cloud and passwords. The loss of information is in many cases the greater damage. Review access to site and search of vehicles and staff on exit.
- The majority of losses were recorded at sites without functioning alarms.

OUTLOOK
The past month’s statistics have revealed that crime is steadily increasing post-election period. Load shedding and the decreased police visibility are likely to result in an increase in crime in the next few months. The past month’s trends have also revealed that criminals and opportunistic employees are actively studying site security systems before they target valuables on site. Additionally, with the increase in violent crime, clients that reside at business sites are likely to be increasingly targeted especially if they have access to buildings and alarm system after hours
